Tofu’s gotta bad rap I think. Often you think that tofu is bland, or tastes like nothing, or doesn’t add anything to the dish, and to those people I say GTFO. If you don’t like tofu maybe it wasn’t done properly? Give give soy a chance. The best part about tofu is it’s ability to take on any flavour you want it to. It’s highly adaptable and can absorb a lot of what you give it! Trust me on this one it’s the best soy marinated sesame crusted tofu you’ll ever come across.

An important part of this recipe is the marinade. When I ate meat, admittedly I didn’t marinade things often. I’d think it would take too long, or I didn’t have time. Boy was I wrong! Marinades don’t have to be over night or for several hours, especially when it comes to vegetarian options. That being said this marinate would be really great with salmon, or chicken or even prawns if you wanted to. But what it does is boosts the flavour you’re looking for. I would say it’s a must in this recipe or you loose a lot of the taste.

This is really great in tandem with my Enoki Mushrooms for dishes like THIS! Here we go!

Soy Marinated Sesame Crusted Tofu

A great addition to any dish or even on it's own as a snack. Serve this with a spicy mayo or a Sweet Thai Chili Sauce. You'll be making this as often as you can!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Large sheet pan
  • 2 Small Bowls
  • Cutting board

Ingredients
  

Marinade

  • 3-4 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Maggie Sauce

Tofu

  • 1 pckg Firm Tofu *not in water*
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 3/4 cup White and Black Sesame Seeds If you don't have both or can't find a mix you're absolutely able to use only one type

Instructions
 

  • Cut tofu into 1" thick slices.
  • in large flat container add tofu and marinade, flip over to make sure it's all coated and marinate for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • Whisk two eggs with the water in one bowl, add mixed sesame seeds in other bowl.
  • Dip Marinated tofu in egg, then carefully place in sesame mix making sure all sides are covered. Repeat with all tofu and place on cutting board.

For Air Fryer

  • Place half tofu in AF at 400 for 8 minutes flipping half way, then repeat with other half.

For Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400F and cook for 10-15minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Use for your favourite dish or have as a snack with your favourite spicy mayo.
